To work towards these certifications, members receive points for attending the Association’s educational and professional development programs. These are included in March’s Critical Issues Summit, October’s Conference and December’s Academy.

These facilities management education programs will prepare individuals for positions in facilities management and further enhance the skills of those already in the field.

Critical Issues Summit

Starting in 2009 SFA and SFMI created a one-day comprehensive program - the Critical Issues Summit - to provide school facilities professionals with the most timely information and resources to continue providing safe, clean, healthy learning environments for students, teachers, administrators and the local community. This program is open to not only our members but other stakeholders in the NYS educational community, including business officials, school superintendents, principals, and more.

School Facilities Managers' Academy

The School Facility Managers' Academy Series is the premier educational program for New York State School Facilities Directors, co-hosted by the NYS School Facilities Association (SFA) and the School Facilities Management Institute, Inc. (SFMI).

The Academy currently offers four different tracks with the Managers' Academy track being offered each year and one additional track being offered simultaneously. The additional tracks include the Leadership, Personnel Management and Security and Emergency Management. No matter if you're new to the field or a seasoned professional, there is a program that is right for you.
