Oswego Chapter Honors Retirees

The Oswego County Chapter of NYSSFA recently met at the Oswego Country Club to honor a few retirees. Over the past year, several very active members of our Chapter have retired. Paul Etz, Director of Facilities for the Pulaski School District; Jerry Sequin, Director of Facilities for Fulton City School District; Angelo Vescio, Head of Maintenance for the Fulton City School District; and Lee Dusharm, past Director of Facilities and most recently Safety and Risk Officer for CiTi BOCES. All these gentlemen take with them decades of service, experience and dedication. We wish them all of the best in their retirement and will miss them dearly.
Auburn Shows Off BOCES Culinary, Tech Operations

The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce Business After 5 sponsored an event which included catering by Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Culinary Arts Department, tours of technology classrooms and a display of projects funded through Auburn Education Foundation grant proposals, co-sponsored by the foundation and the Auburn school district.
Norton said that testing of the new system would begin next week. Also, demolition on the old system has already begun.

Ripley Superintendent William Caldwell praised the workers who have been installing the system, noting how careful they were not to come into the main school area until students had been dismissed. “The crew has been top-notch in every way,” he said. “We are very pleased with the way the project has gone.”

Onteora Considers Changing Middle School Grade Lineup

The Onteora school district is considering whether to hire a consultant to evaluate a possible addition of grades to the middle school.

Onteora Middle School, on Route 28 in Boiceville, currently has seventh- and eighth-graders. School district Superintendent Victoria McLaren said that configuration has not been reviewed in more than seven years.

“Having been in the district for 14 years, I have seen two separate committees research the middle school configuration for Onteora, and they both recommended expanding the grade configuration. But that recommendation has not been acted upon,” she said.

McLaren said hiring a consultant would be in line with the Board of Education's goal of developing a long-term districtwide plan to deal with declining enrollment.
