Mike McClain Bio picI started my career working at the Canandaigua City School District in the summer of 1981, through the Ontario County Workforce Program and was hired part-time by the District in September of that year. I then worked my way up to full-time Custodial Worker and continued working up through the system until I became Head Custodian of the P/E Complex, Academy, and several off-site facilities owned or leased by the district. In 2000 I attended the Trade Electrical classes at Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES, which was a 2000-hour program, and became a certified electrician. In 2001 I started my own construction company and still operate it on a part-time basis. In 2003 I went to college and received a degree in Architectural and Mechanical Engineering with the hopes of becoming a Director of Facilities. In April of 2012 became the probationary Director of Facilities II for the Canandaigua School District, and I have continued to serve the District as the Director of Facilities since.

In 2015 I was asked to hold meetings with the Directors of Facilities that fall under the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES to be a liaison to support the Directors of Facilities in the Wayne Finger Lakes area. In 2017 we formalized our group into the Wayne Finger Lakes Chapter of the New York State School Facilities Association. We still operate as an educational support group for all Directors of Facilities. Recently we had the ability to offer scholarships to three of our students to help the future of Facilities Maintenance.

I want to be Third Vice President because I believe in what the NYSSFA stands for. I would like to support and carry forward what previous Vice Presidents have started and support the Directors across New York state in any way that I can. I am a strong believer that the educational process never stops and stretching yourself to do things that make you uncomfortable while helping others is satisfying work.
