unnamedHello NYS SFA Members,

My name is David Ciurczak and I am honored to be nominated by the Niagara Frontier Chapter for 3rd Vice President of the School Facilities Association.

After graduating high school, I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where I was a member of the 2nd Battalion 8th Motors. The Marines taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, punctuality, and leadership which continues to shape my life. After the military, I began my career as an Apprentice Pipefitter with the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 22 Union. This led to a position with Siemens Building Technologies. As a Lead Service Technician Foreman, I supervised the service, installation, and maintenance of various types of HVAC equipment. After earning my Master Journeyman certification in 2000, I became a Certified Training Instructor for the Local 22 Union, where I provided evening training to Journeymen and Apprentices on all aspects of the trade. It was during this time I accepted the position of Superintendent of Mechanical System Services with Siemens Building Technologies. In this new role, I worked closely with many area school districts servicing their HVAC needs. I developed several professional relationships with the school's facility directors and found out what an important, complex, and demanding job they had, but all at the same time rewarding with a sense of accomplishment in making their districts a better place for the community they served.

In 2009, I made the decision to leave Siemens after 14 years and accepted the position of Director of Facilities for the Starpoint Central School District. One of the very first things I did was join SFA. The support I received from my fellow facility directors was amazing. Knowing I had a support group helped me transition into my new role which I believe has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in life. The past 13 years have been extremely rewarding both professionally and personally. I owe a lot of this to The Niagara Chapter and The State Association. I strongly believe the professional development and networking both these organizations offer give me the tools to succeed on the job.

Personally, I reside in Lewiston, NY with my beautiful wife Kim. We have been married for over 30 years, and I am the proud father of five incredible children. I enjoy golf and bowling and am an avid hunter. I am a member of the Association for Facilities Engineering, The 3F Sportsman Club, and the Lewiston Moose Lodge. My credentials include NYS Certified Asbestos Supervisor, Lead Abatement Training, NYS Certified Pool Operator, Journeyman Pipefitter Instructor, Refrigeration Service Engineering Society, NYS Stationary Engineering Program, Carrier & Dectron Factory Training, EPA Certification Type I, II, III, Universal 410A, Certified UA Training Instructor and Certificate of Achievement from the United Association Mastery Examination.

In closing, I value our State Association and the benefits it provides. I believe the importance each facility director has in providing our mission statement daily to their respective school districts. From my training in the Marines Corp to my current position at Starpoint Schools, I understand the importance of leadership. I would be humbled to serve as your next Third Vice President and kindly ask for your support. I look forward to the ability to work with each Chapter as well as the Executive Committee as we continue to grow and shape our organization and meet the ever-changing challenges school districts face.

Thank you for your support!
