Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is an honor to serve as your president. Thank you.
I have given a lot of thought to our Association -- what makes us strong, how we can grow, and how we continue to tell the story about the important work we do in schools across New York State. Our Association has much to be proud of and to celebrate, starting with you, our member.
I celebrate the work you do every day to ensure clean, safe and secure learning environments for our State’s elementary, middle and high school students, teachers, and administrators, and all the things you do to make your facilities and grounds the best they can be.
I celebrate your professionalism, commitment to your own development and your advocacy for our schools.
I celebrate the way you support one another, through our state Association and local Chapters. I can’t emphasize enough how important this is. The work we do has changed – we have more responsibilities, more compliance, and a greater emphasis on energy conservation and environmental concerns. Safety and security – always a top priority. At the same time, we too often work with limited budgets, and great needs. We all need the support of our peers – good old-fashioned moral support as well as practical suggestions for meeting the challenges of the job.
We have achieved a great deal, but we can’t rest on our laurels – there is more to do.
The New York State School Facilities Association and the School Facilities Management Institute together provide a wide range of professional development, scholarship, peer-to-peer support and other valuable benefits, including the Association's certification programs.
The programs developed by the Association and the Institute are developed by School Facility Managers for School Facility Managers, resulting in timely and useful training. NYSSFA and SFMI joined forces this year to develop an information brochure that summarizes the value we bring our members, as well as the many educational opportunities we offer.
